The Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards (NOMFA) is a biennial multi-day event hosted by Cultural Industries Ontario North (CION) which highlights the talent of the continually growing music and film industries in Northern Ontario. In case you haven’t yet, check out the “outreach button”. When you drop down to the list of names and email addresses, on the right hand side there is a search bar. If for example you are looking for stations that play pop you can search “pop” and then the list will narrow down. 

You can go up to “Songs” or “Releases” on your account and click on what you wish to share and simply “Copy share URL” and when reaching out to stations you can send them the link for easier access. *Stations need to sign in first to be able to see the upload.

Calling out all BC musicians.

Creative BC is offering two new funding programs to support people from systematically excluded groups in B.C.’s music industry. The new Business Foundations offers grants of up to $10,000, covering 100% of expenses to support business operations. Aspiring musicians can also benefit from the Demo Recording Program, providing $2,000 to record one to two songs with the help of a local music producer. Reminders

Make sure your metadata is correct!

Remember that by uploading WAV files, all the metadata stations can see is the one you input into the system and the information you provide for your upload.

If you want to double check that your metadata is correct, you can go to “Releases” and click on the pencil icon to make sure your tracks are in the right order, ect.

To check individual songs, go to “Songs” and click the pencil icon, there you can make sure the titles are correct as well as any additional information related to that specific track. These edits can be made even after payment. 

Label account vs Independent account

Labels account allows you to manage not only your uploads but also other artists’ uploads, like your band. If you have signed up for an independent account but wish to manage different artists, email support@earshot-distro.ca and we can make that switch for you.

Training

The training session will be taking place on November 15th, 2023 2:30 PM (EST) over Zoom. It will be a 45 – 60 minute breakdown of the system and the best way for the music industry to use it, this will be an opportunity for learning about the system and providing us with any feedback you may have.

The training session will be done by Barry Rooke (Executive Director) and Eloisa Veliz (Marketing and Outreach Coordinator).

Best Practices

Number your tracks/Reordering your songs

Make sure to number your tracks, this saves the stations a lot of time while sorting through your songs!

Under “Releases” select your album and click on the pencil icon to edit, on the right side you will see the songs you’ve uploaded to that album, there you can move them around to the correct order, to save click the “Save Order” button and then for good measures click “Save” at the bottom of the page. This is a quick and easy fix that you can do even after the payment process has been completed. If you wish to add the number of a song to its title, go to “Songs” and click the pencil icon.

You’ve uploaded your music, now what?

Independent Artist” vs. “Label

If you started your account as an independent artist and would like the option to upload other projects under a different name, you can email support@earshot-distro.ca and we can quickly change your account, this won’t affect your past uploads.

Share Album URL with stations

You can now not only share songs links with stations but now you can share the link to your full album. Go to “Release” and in the album you are wishing to share you will see “Copy share URL” next to the pencil icon to edit and the “x” to delete.

MAPL!e Grant

!earshot Distro partners up with provincial and national music associations to bring you the MAPL!e Grant Program. The MAPL!e Grant offers association’s members access to !earshot distro at a discounted rate, with the chance to receive a 25% to 50% discount to the system!

Best Practices:

Order your songs

Under “Releases” select your album and click on the pencil icon and on the right side you will see the songs you’ve uploaded to that album, you can drag them and move them around to the correct order and to save click the “Save Order” button and then for good measures click “Save” at the bottom of the page. This is a quick and easy fix that you can do even after the payment process has been completed. 

Outreach Button

Check out the “outreach button” if you haven’t yet. When you drop down to the list of names and email addresses, on the right hand side there is a search bar. If for example you are looking for stations that play pop you can search “pop” and then the list will narrow down. 

You can go up to “Songs” or “Releases” on your account and click on what you wish to share and simply copy the URL and when reaching out to stations you can send them the link for easier access.

Independent Artist” vs. “Label

If you started your account as an independent artist and would like the option to upload other projects under a different name, you can email support@earshot-distro.ca and we can quickly change your account, this won’t affect your past uploads. 

Lyrics

When a song is released you can still add the lyrics to it, simply go to Songs and click on the pencil icon of the song you want to edit, scroll down and you will see a text box where you can add the lyrics to the song.
