Take You Higher by The Wivez

"Make no mistake, the Wivez and the track Take You Higher are exactly what we need in 2020. This jaunty slice of power pop is is full of great hooks and a nice message to lift your spirits in what has been an awfully challenging year. It's a bit like eating popcorn. Not a lot of substance but who cares - it's sonically delicious!" - Norm (Earshot Distro Reviewer)

That Easy by Catherine Aria

"I absolutely love this song! It draws you in with a folk intro then juxtaposes that with a funky, Dido-like sound that is both fascinating and irresistible. Ms. Aria's unique and compelling voice is an added bonus to a wonderful piece of music. " - Norm (Earshot Distro Reviewer)

Game Play by The Brooks

"What would you get if you took the influences of James Brown, Herbie Hancock, Prince, Mark Ronson, and the Commodores and mixed them together in a big ole' ebullient soul stew? This track is what. From the catchy bass to start the track, to the wonderful breaks, to incredible musicianship this has it all, and like the best of Motown makes joyfulness seem effortless. Not sure how this group is a funk secret, but long may The Brooks flow. " - Norm (Earshot Distro Reviewer)

The Brooks

(From Label) Named the “best kept secret of Canadian funk” by La Presse, The Brooks are a band of accomplished musicians, well-known in the soul/funk scene across the Atlantic. The Brooks are fronted by the icon that is Alan Prater. the Florida-born musician who has toured with Michael Jackson and the band itself was born behind the walls of the legendary Motown Museum thanks to bassist Alexandre Lapointe, who has worked alongside such artists such as Joel Campbell (musical director for Tina Turner and Janet Jackson). Prater and Lapointe are joined by Maxime Bellavance (drums), Philippe Look (guitar & vocals), Daniel Thouin (keyboard), Sébastien Grenier (saxophone), Hichem Khalfa (French trumpet), and Philippe Beaudin (percussion). In their music you can hear James Brown’s meticulousness, D’Angelo’s delightfulness, Fela Kuti’s radiance, Herbie Hancock’s intergenerational openness, and J. Dilla’s innovative spirit. These heroes of music didn’t let rules and trends dictate their messages, and neither do The Brooks. Just like these history makers, they built their reputation with sweat and rigor, outside of conventional channels. Over 8 years and with an EP and two albums, they have already won many awards and nominations including GAMIQ, Independent Music Awards, and ADISQ. The Brooks’ philosophy is based on art in its rawest form, on perfectionism in musical practice. The choices they make and the directions they take are motivated mostly by instinctive feelings. Together they are united in a project where pleasure and complete artistic freedom are the only key words.

Paramour by Tatam

"So, every know and then you're lucky enough to find a song you like so much that you rush right over to YouTube hoping there's more where that came from. There I found this superb song, and I was it's first view on YouTube! It's haunting and brilliant all at the same time, and I will use it when our community radio station QCCR launches a new singer/songwriter show in a couple of weeks. In fact I may use it first. It's that good. " - Norm (Earshot Distro Reviewer)

Tatam

(From Label) Tatam is an Indie Folk artist from Edmonton, AB. Since the beginning, acoustic music has been an important part of his career. Inspired by artists that range from Alanis Morrissette to Ani Difranco, and Matthew Good to The Tallest Man On Earth, Tatam writes rich melodies over rolling acoustics. Though it has been 7 years since his last album, Twenties is composed of songs written through the last decade that stood out as milestones of common behaviour and experiences that he lived through in his young adult years. Recorded at The Warehouse Studios in Vancouver, BC with Engineer Ryan Enockson (Jann Arden, Michael Bublé, The Trews) and Producer Matt Dauncy (AKA Neighbour), there is a strong production value that stands out over his last two releases. In his early years of writing and performing, Tatam toured both locally and internationally, raising eyebrows along the way. Notable relationships include working with Edmonton’s Tim Feehan in Los Angeles and a brief mentorship with the late Gaye Delorme.
